High frequency operator: Five Live Loves with Alex Hertz

Alex has always loved India. Here she wears a necklace from a trip taken before border closures in 2020.

Alex Hertz has energy to burn and a passion for travel and home design that seem to have always been part of her life. "My family emigrated from England when I was six," she explains. "I've left Mount Eliza a few times to study or work but I've always come back here."

With her husband and two daughters, Alex manages a full-time career as a paramedic and a home building company with husband Brendon. Together, they indulged a passion and, on the way, started a business. "The very first house I bought was in South Frankston, which we renovated together." Today, their company, Aldon Homes, has a dozen projects in a portfolio spanning 10 years.

Balancing the work and family, there are plenty of spaces in Alex’s home for quiet reflection.

She describes her aesthetic as earthy and soulful, incorporating reclaimed materials to lend both interest and pay respect to nature and ingenuity. Currently for sale, her home at 7A Glen Shian Crescent indulges another passion: "Family and friends – at the end of the day they're the most important things. A superbly designed outdoor room is equally matched by the home's kitchen where layers of travel finds are the backdrop to year-round entertaining.

"I've had a passion for property since I can remember," says Alex. "Some people are addicted to social media. Me? I spend my time online scrolling property listings!"

Travel and birthday memories are preserved in objects around Alex’s home.
